Schoen Clinic is the largest family-run hospital group in Germany. In recent years it has expanded its European presence through a number of specialist locations in the UK.  

Schoen Clinic is renowned for providing world-class medical excellence through specialisation, multi-disciplinary care and a data-driven approach to quality and patient outcomes. 

Reason and Purpose:  

As part of a major growth strategy in the UK, the board of Schoen Clinic sought a Managing Director for their UK Operations. As the number one leadership position in the UK, this was deemed an absolutely critical hire for the group.  

Given their specialism in both Orthopaedics and Mental Health, Schoen’s requirement was niche. Their desire was for an individual with expertise in both Private Acute Hospital Leadership and Mental Health.   

Why Compass Carter Osborne? 

Schoen approached Compass Carter Osborne off the back of reading of our successful work within this market.  

Given the specificity of the brief, Schoen required a partner with granular knowledge of the sector. We were able to evidence this alongside a network of individuals who possessed their desired expertise. 

Search process / methodology: 

 The search was undertaken on a highly confidential basis. A targeted piece of research was conducted concurrent to Compass Carter Osborne utilising their sector network. From an extensive initial target list, 15 individuals were shared as part of a ‘longlist review session’ and four subsequently chosen for interview. 

Outcome:  

Speed was a critical factor in this search. A series of interviews were swiftly arranged with both Schoen and their investors.  

Having taken the brief in Mid-September, Schoen sought to appoint by Mid-November 2019. Timely and consistent communication was critical to achieving this milestone. A unanimous appointment was made in early November. 

Following the success of the UK MD appointment, CCO were then engaged to run a search for a UK FD, who would be responsible for oversight of all UK operations, as well as being responsible for leading on all aspects of financial performance based on the planned and anticipated growth in line with the wider business strategy. This was also successfully delivered.
