OSD Healthcare is a leading private healthcare provider in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, UK. It was established to improve patients’ lives by providing a seamless healthcare experience and delivering clinical excellence through collaboration and compassion.   

The facility is renowned for its comprehensive medical services, state-of-the-art technology, and highly skilled professionals dedicated to ensuring the best possible patient outcomes.    

OSD faced the critical task of replacing its outgoing CEO, Ray Guirguis. This transition is not just a change in leadership but a crucial step towards ensuring our continued growth, innovation, and excellence in patient care. 

Reason and Purpose 

The primary objectives of the executive search project were: 

  1. Identify a highly qualified CEO candidate with a strong background in private healthcare management. 
  2. Ensure a seamless leadership transition to maintain OSD Healthcare’s operational stability and reputation.
  3. Align the new CEO’s vision with the organisation’s strategic goals, focusing on enhancing patient care, technological integration, and financial health. 

Search process / methodology:    

Compass Carter Osborne (CCO) began with thorough consultations with OSD Healthcare’s board of directors and senior management to understand their specific needs and vision for the new CEO. Key performance indicators (KPIs) and desired competencies were outlined, including: 

  • Proven leadership in healthcare management 
  • Strategic vision and innovation 
  • Strong operational and financial acumen 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills 
  • Commitment to enhancing patient care and organisational culture 

CCO undertook an in-depth research process. In addition to our established network, we conducted extensive market research and employed a multi-channel approach to identify potential candidates. 

A rigorous multi-stage assessment process was implemented to ensure thorough evaluation: 

  • Preliminary Screening: Conducting initial interviews and background checks to shortlist candidates. 
  • Competency-Based Interviews: Evaluating leadership capabilities, strategic vision, and healthcare expertise. 
  • Reference Checks: Gathering detailed insights from previous employers and professional peers. 

CCO presented three top candidates to OSD Healthcare’s board of directors for final interviews. After a comprehensive evaluation, Phil Bates, a distinguished private healthcare executive with managerial roles at Ramsay, Capio and Aspen Healthcare, was selected as the new CEO. 

Outcome: 

Phil Bates took up his new appointment with OSD Healthcare in April 2024. The executive search project for OSD Healthcare was a significant success, underscoring CCO’s ability to identify and secure top executive talent.
