Compass Carter Osborne was retained and mandated to source a CEO for Ireland’s largest private acute hospital group, Blackrock Health. Sam Leighton-Smith and Kieran Mouser attended a competitive pitch process against several other executive search businesses and presented to the organisations investors who were impressed by CCO’s track record of delivering CEO mandates in Ireland and our extensive and deep network of individuals in the UK / European markets that they wished to explore.
Reason & Purpose:
The investors were looking for a CEO to come on-board and consolidate the Irish market and take advantage of a changing health economy over there, and as such needed an established operator with strong strategic leadership qualities.
Search process / methodology:
CCO undertook a thorough and extensive market mapping exercise of both the Irish and UK healthcare sector, which we supplemented with individuals from our own network. This led to a total of 35 individuals being identified and approached (under NDA), from this pool a shortlist of 5 candidates was presented to the board / investors. 30% of the target list was female and 50% of the shortlist presented was female.
Outcome:
After an extensive interview process, Dr Caroline Whelan was appointed as CEO. Dr Caroline has previously been the Group COO of Mater Private Healthcare Group, one of Ireland’s largest private healthcare groups and brought a strong operational, strategic and leadership skillset with her.
